Set sail to discover the cultural and artistic jewels of the Ionian and Adriatic Seas with PONANT. During this 9-day cruise, L’Austral will take you to Greece, Montenegro, Croatia and Italy.
Your ship will leave Valletta, the capital of Malta and former stronghold of the Knights of the Order of Malta and set sail towards Sicily. Then, you will set sail for Syracuse, one of the most prestigious Sicilian cities, whose monuments are listed as a UNESCO World Heritage.
Next, you will visit the stunning Puglia region in Italy when the ship calls at Otranto. Do not miss a visit to Lecce: Its lavish baroque monuments have earned it the nickname “Florence of the South of Italy”.
Your ship will then set sail towards Montenegro, for an unforgettable cruise in the Bay of Kotor. This impressive gap between two mountain ranges is home to a veritable inland lake with a magical atmosphere; the medieval city of Kotor and its many historical monuments are its jewels.
You will then head to the aptly named “Pearl of the Adriatic”, Dubrovnik, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Surrounded by medieval ramparts, its terracotta-tiled roofs, its palaces, cloisters and fountains are bound to impress you and will plunge you into the heart of Croatian history.
You will first stop in Hvar, the most famous and attractive of the Adriatic islands. Ringed by ramparts, the town has many remarkable monuments including its elegant cathedral, old arsenal and aristocratic palaces.
The Slovenian shores await you in Piran, a medieval town extending out into the crystal-clear waters of the Adriatic. Its architecture, influenced by five centuries under the rule of the Republic of Venice, affords it a singular charm.
As a grand finale, your voyage will draw an end in Venice the Serenissima and its lagoon. Piazza San Marco, the Doge’s Palace, the Grand Canal and the palaces along the canals will be your last stops on an unforgettable cruise.

Born in Treviso in 1984, he grew up for culture and passion among the gastronomic excellences of a territory rich in exceptional raw materials. He chooses - and develops - his course of study, focusing to training in haute cuisine with particular attention to the enhancement of the organoleptic uniqueness of the raw materials of the Venetian territory, which he puts into practice at the Gran Caffè Quadri in Venice.
Driven by the desire to experiment beyond the regional border, he travels to Switzerland, Costa Smeralda and Tuscany, deepening the rigorous and innovative processing techniques of categories of raw materials until then less treated during previous experiences such as meat, flour for baking, wild herbs and dairy products.
The call of Venice and its uniqueness will lead him in 2015 to accept the role of Sous Chef at the historic Londra Palace Venezia, where his professionalism and experience, linked to a strong and gentle character allow him to be appointed in 2021 Chef of the double culinary proposal, LPV Restaurant and LPV Bistrot, with constant research and attention to vegetarian and seasonal proposals.

During the days spent on board, you are advised to wear comfortable clothes or casual outfits. The entire ship is air-conditioned, so a light sweater, a light jacket or a shawl may be necessary. When moving about in the public areas of the ship and the decks, light but comfortable shoes are recommended.

The whole of the Maltese capital Valletta is UNESCO World Heritage listed and occupies a peninsula in the north-east of the island. From the fountain of Tritons to Saint-Elme fort, there are as many majestic streets as there are narrow staircase vennels to explore. The painted loggia and carved corbels on the tall houses will accompany you in your explorations, and you’ll rarely be bothered by traffic. You can visit the Grandmasters palace decorated with coats of arms and frescoes. Saint-John’s cathedral and the ramparts which have guarded the city since the 16th century are also among the most emblematic sites of the city. Arranged in terraces, the Barrakka Gardens will punctuate your promenade with a green and floral experience.

Located in the Apulia region, Otrante is the easternmost transalpine town. Behind its medieval ramparts, you will taste the sweetlife of Salento, the “heel on Italy’s boot”. Inhabited since Antiquity, Otrante has today become a very pleasant seaside town. Yet its history is still visible as you meander through the little streets of its old centre. With its magnificent 12th century ornamental mosaic tiling, the Cathedral is one of its most beautiful treasures. During a stroll along the ramparts, you can sit and relax at a café terrace.

Emblem of the Dalmatian coast, Dubrovnik is magnificently positioned on a rocky spur. History is sovereign here, in this ancient city, now a listed UNESCO World Heritage site. You will perhaps be surprised by the proportions of La Placa, the central drag through the city. The sheer width of it can be explained by the fact that it straddles a former lagoon. The elegant houses along La Placa are built in the legendary travertine stone. At Pile gate, you will be greeted by the statue of the patron saint of Dubrovnik, and you can admire the coastline as you walk along the ramparts. But what’s inside Fort Saint John, adjoining the outer walls? A maritime museum and an aquarium featuring rare fish from the Adriatic.

Off the coast of Split, Hvar will surprise you by its traditions that have not changed since Antiquity. The country’s oldest town, Stari Grad, is here on this Dalmatian Island. The town nestles by a cove on the north-west coast, surrounded by dry stone wall structures on the Stari Grad plains. These have been designated a UNESCO World Heritage site because they were built in the time of the Ancient Greeks. From these parcels of land come wines and olive oil manufactured manually. In the upper part of town, it is possible to discover hams and cheeses made by local producers.

On the Slovenian coast, the picturesque town of Piran stands on a tongue of land bathed by the Adriatic. Its old town, girded by fortifications, provides a medieval atmosphere embossed with Venetian nuances. From Tartini square, you can explore a whole interweave of mysterious streets located on the hillside, leading you to Saint George’s church, built on a hillock overlooking the shoreline. After admiring the view, don’t miss a good look at the nave, and its rich decorations of frescoes and panelling. You will also see that the tower built behind the church reproduces the famous bell-tower of Saint Mark’s square. During your peregrinations, make sure you try a borek, a sort of pasty which can be sweet or savoury, filled with meat or fruit.

Proud and eternal, Venice has reigned on its lagoon ever since the 6th century. You may think you know this city before even setting foot here. You will inevitably fall in love with the charm of the innumerable treasures of the Serenissima: Saint Mark’s square, the basilica, Doges palace, the Grand Canal and the gondolas. Yet, secret Venice is also waiting for you to explore its little interlacing streets and canals, to ramble through its squares and to push open the doors of its churches. The city’s extraordinary heritage shouldn’t stop you from enjoying a glass of Spritz and a few tramezzini.
Noto, Baroque town
Depart by coach from the port through the countryside, passing through villages and almond groves as you make your way to Noto, the second largest town in Syracuse province and the best example of Sicilian Baroque architecture on the island.
You will cross on foot the Public Gardens, where it is possible to admire the busts of the artists who contributed to Noto’s urban culture and style.
Besides the 18th century Cathedral, currently under restoration after damage suffered during 1990 earthquake, other impressive buildings are the Churches of St Domenico and of St Charles (del Colleggio), the “Ducezio” Palace and “Villadorata” Palace.
Noto has been declared a Heritage site by UNESCO, who also provides financial support for the reconstruction of monuments destroyed during 1990 earthquake.
A refreshment will be offered at a local bar and then you will enjoy some free time to browse around before commencing the return drive to Syracuse.

Restoration works on the monuments of Noto (after damage suffered during the 1990 earthquake) are almost completed but access to church interiors might still be restricted. This excursion involves approximately 1.2 mile (2 km) of walking mostly over easy terrain, except for steps to enter churches. We recommend you wear comfortable walking shoes. Appropriate dress is recommended to enter religious sites (shoulders and knees must be covered). The palace visits are only outside visits. This tour is not recommended for guest with limited mobility.

Depart the pier by coach and drive to the archaeological area, which you will reach after a short drive.
Visit the Roman Amphitheatre of Augustus, used for fights between gladiators and wild beasts, the Altar of Hieron, constructed in the 2nd century BC to celebrate the “Eleutherian Feast”, the Latomie of Paradise, huge caverns once used as prisons, the Ear of Dionysius, an enormous grotto with extraordinary echo and the Greek Theatre, one of the largest in the Hellenic World, constructed in the 5th century BC and successively enlarged.
Upon completion of the visit, re-board your coach for the short drive to Ortygia, which you will visit on foot. On Ortygia Island discover the Piazza Pancali (the ruins of the Temple of Apollo of the 6th century BC), Corso Matteotti, Archimede’s Place, Piazza Duomo. Visit the Cathedral in Baroque style, erected over the remains of the Doric Temple of Minerva: in the interiors, see the undamaged twelve Doric columns. Then visit the fountain of Arethusa, the nymph praised by Pindar and Virgilio in one of the most touching and fine myths. Several nobility palaces – majority of them originating in the 15th and 16th centuries – will be seen from outside during the walking tour.
Then, return to the port and your ship.

From the pier, you will meet with your guide and start your walking tour through the Old Town of Syracusa, whose narrow streets are lined by old, Baroque-style houses with charming balconies. You will enjoy a photo stop at the Cathedral Square where the Baroque-style Cathedral can be seen (outside visit only), erected over the remains of the Doric Temple of Minerva.
You will continue your walking tour through the narrow streets in the heart of the historic center towards the artisan workshop of Daniel Mauceri, a famous pupeteer. Daniel, together with his family, carries-on the ancient tradition of the Opera dei Pupi.
In 2021 Daniel Mauceri was selected by the Michelangelo Foundation to be included in the Homo Faber Guide, which contains the best international artisan excellence. His private collection represents the fruit of years of hard work by the Vaccaro Mauceri family. Upon your arrival, Daniel will explains all the processing stages for the creation of a Sicilian puppet and will show you how to move it during a show.
Finally, you will walk back to your ship.

Set off to discover the hills of Buonivini, in Noto, and dive into the history of this wine estate with a visit of the vineyard, followed by a tasting.
On the hills of Buonivini, the limestone soil and breezes coming from the meeting of two seas create the best conditions for the vines to successfully grow and produce great wines. Here, Nero d'Avola and Moscato grow side by side with almonds, carobs and olives, all symbolic plants of the Mediterranean region.
Planeta Buonivini created its estate in 1998, renovating the case sparse, these small rural houses equipped with furniture made from recycled materials, where it is possible to stay in an authentic atmosphere.
On your arrival, you will visit the “invisible” cellar and the vineyard, then you will be invited to taste wine and Sicilian specialities.
- This visit involves moderate walking of around 500 metres (1,640 feet), with some steps to negotiate. This excursion is suitable for persons with reduced mobility. We recommend you wear light and comfortable clothes, flat and closed walking shoes, and protect yourself from the sun.

From the pier, board your coach for the 45-minute drive to the port of Castro Marina, a nice village located on the very heel of Italy's boot, from where you will embark on a local boat for your 2-hour scenic cruise along the Apulian coastline.
You will see the most important and well-known caves located along this part of the Italian coast between Castro Marina and Santa Cesarea named Azzurra, Palombara, Zinzulusa, Romanelli, Streghe and Solfatara.
You will have the opportunity to visit two of the caves by boat, the Azzurra Cave, with its extraordinary plays of lights and the Zinzulusa Cave, with its impressive entrance, full of history and legends. Sea conditions permitting, two stops are foreseen for a relaxing swim.
Following a refreshment and local snacks onboard the boat, it will be time to return to reboard your coach for the transfer back to the pier and your ship.
- You must negotiate an inclined path from the bus parking to the boat embarkation point and negotiate some steps in and out the boat. Summer in Apulia is extremely hot, we recommend you protect yourself from the sun. If you intend to swim, we recommend you wear your swimsuit under your clothes and have non-slippery closed bathing shoes. There is a ladder to get in/out of the water for swimming. There is no toilet on board the boat. A comfort stop can be made at the local bar in Castro Marina before or after the boat tour (a coffee or drink is appreciated by the bar staff at your expenses). A minimum of 20 participants is required to confirm this tour.

The city of Lecce has earned itself various epithets thanks to its beauty and its historical and architectural treasures: in fact, it is usually referred to as “the Florence of Southern Italy” or “open-air museum” for the abundance of churches and noble palaces, made more elegant and refined by the unique and sumptuous decorations realized with the “leccese stone”, a particular stone whose colour gets the same nuance as honey under the rays of the sun.
Set in the very heart of the Salento region, called “the Heel of Italy’s boot”, Lecce dates back to Roman times: in fact, you can still admire in Piazza St. Oronzo the Roman Amphitheatre (from outside) which dates back to the second century A.D. and could hold up to 20,000 spectators. In it gladiators used to face and fight against wild animals.
From Otranto, board your coach for the one-hour drive to Lecce where your walking tour of the old town will start. Walk the centre of town with your guide to discover a remarkable architectural style known as the “Barocco Leccese”. From the 16th to the 18th century, Lecce knew a period of great splendour during which it was embellished with Rococo’ and Baroque Monuments. The local finely grained limestone was particularly easy to work, making easy the creation of a very decorative style, with delicate details, which you will recognize immediately.
During the tour you will visit Santa Croce Basilica (only outside visit), which is sumptuously decorated, without being overbearing: close to it you can admire the impressive façade of the Governor’s Palace (the former monastery of the Celestine monks). Your tour cannot end without a visit of what is considered one of the finest squares in Southern Italy: Piazza Duomo, where the Cathedral as well as the Archbishop’s Palace are located. Following your visits, you will enjoy a nice local break tasting Apulian wine and local delicacies.
Some free time will allow you to wander at leisure for shopping before returning to Otranto and your ship.

The pizzica belongs to the large family of traditional dances known as tarantella, and was a popular dance in Puglia and Basilicata until the 1970s.
As well as being performed at festive occasions by various family groups or local communities, the pizzica also accompanied the ritual of tarentism (therapeutic treatments to cure the venom of the tarantula) in the Salento area. It was performed by orchestras made up of various instruments, with the tambourine and violin standing out for their rhythmic and melodic characteristics.
Today, you'll be treated to a performance by three musicians and one dancer, dressed in traditional costumes. Let yourself be carried away by this tradition and admire their art.

A visit through its enigmatic lanes is like a journey back in time, a living exploration of the cultural strata that make Gallipoli such a rare pearl. Time here sometimes seems to stand still. Near the port, where your guided tour will begin, the fisherman are hard at work. Some are gathering together the catch of the day, whereas others are repairing their nets. Off in the distance, the gates of the old town open onto a maze of narrow lanes edged withbright- and warm-coloured dwellings, where the shade of the buildings draws a mystical labyrinth. Each street corner tells its own story of this medieval city, with its multiple heritages and cultural influences. Take the time to listen to the stories told by your local guide, as you admire the surprising St. Agatha’s Cathedral, its columns and its stunning baroque frescoes.
The sun-drenched hills of Gallipoli, bathed by the blue waters of the Mediterranean, made it a regional stronghold in olive-oil production as of the 15th century. The exports of this “liquid gold” were so significant that its production was stored in the four corners of the city in underground cisterns dug out of the local limestone, called carparo. You will have the opportunity to discover the production techniques that were used in the past, as you visit one of the 35 recently renovated underground oil mills.

From the pier, embark your coach for the 25-minute drive to Perast, town with almost the same number of churches as the number of inhabitants.
Enjoy the scenery and architecture of the old historical town of Perast which, between the 13th and 18th centuries, belonged to Venice. The most beautiful buildings were constructed under the period of the Republic of Venice in the 17th and 18th centuries when Perast was at its peak. The Parish Church in Perast was built in 1740 by the Venetian architect, Giuseppe Beati but only the church tower and the church vault remain. You will visit the St. Nicholas Church, patron saint of the sailors.
There are two small islands in the close vicinity of Perast: St. George Island and Our Lady of the Rock Island.
You will reach the man-made islet of Our Lady of the Rocks after a 15-minute boat ride. The stone plateau in the middle of the sea with a church on it is the result of the enduring efforts of generations of sailors. The island was built artificially by scuttling old ships and depositing stones around a small crag. The construction of a sanctuary began in the first century of the Venetian rule. The sanctuary was dedicated to the Assumption of the Virgin because this cult was greatly venerated by the Venetians. On the altar is the famous icon of Our Lady of the Rock, a 15th century work by Lovro Marinov Dobricevic. It is the most valuable work of art in the church because its history is so closely related to that of the island, the only artificially built island in the Adriatic. The church itself is decorated with more than 2,500 votive tablets made of silver, mostly donated by seamen.

From the pier, board your coach for a 1-hour scenic drive along the Adriatic Road toward the town of Ston.
Ston was built according to the plans approved by the Dubrovnik government in 1335 and amended in 1370 and is considered one of the best planned and best structured cities in Europe. The walls of Ston were a massive architecture and construction feat. Originally 7,000 metre long (22,965 ft.), they consist of several parts; the Ston city walls, the Mali Ston city walls and the Big wall with its three forts. Its forts and towers are strengthened by 10 round and 31 square flanking towers, as well as 6 semicircular bastions. It took almost four centuries to finish these complex defence walls, as the builders had to adapt to the rough terrain and advancements in warfare technology. The walls were last used for defence in the 19th century, and today they are a priceless monument of immense architectural and cultural value.
Once arriving at Ston’s walls, you will start your hiking passing distance of almost 900 meters over demanding terrain with more than 250 steps before joining your coach for a ride to Mali Ston, the 'oysters capital' of Croatia.
Upon arrival in Mali Ston, you will board a local boat which will take you to oyster and mussel beds. Your host will welcome you on board and introduce you with oyster & mussel farming in this area. You will have the opportunity to learn about the oyster & mussel production as well as to taste freshly prepared oysters & mussels including mussel buzara (mussels cooked with wine, garlic and olive oil).
Finally, re-board your coach for a 1-hour return ride back to Dubrovnik along the old historical road passing through the old villages of Dubrovacko Primorje.

From the pier, you will board a speedboat and start a 30-minute scenic cruise along the walled city towards the Elaphite Islands.
You will sail along the Elaphite Islands discovering this preserved natural beauty with its cliffs and sea caves. This tiny archipelago, full of history and legends, has been inhabited for many years.
You will visit Kolocep Island, the closest to Dubrovnik. Kolocep, the smallest of the three main Elafiti islands, is covered from east to west with a pine forest whose branches descend to the surface of the sea. Here, you will enjoy a refreshment before sailing to Lopud Island.
The “middle” island of the Elafiti trio, Lopud is home to just over 200 people although is considered the most developed of the three islands. This island houses many ruins from all periods.

From the pier, meet your guide and start your stroll through the streets of this medieval town.
Along the way you will visit, among other places, the Franciscan Monastery whose cloister ranks among the most inspiring sites of the city. The Monastery houses also the oldest still working pharmacy in Europe and the third oldest pharmacy in the world founded in 1317. It is still active and still offers creams manufactured according to ancestral recipes.
You will continue with the Dominican Monastery, soberer than the previous one, and its museum with a fine collection of Renaissance paintings, including the triptych of N. Bozidarevic representing Dubrovnik before the earthquake or the table of Titian representing Sainte Madeleine and Saint Blaise.
Other fine buildings will be viewed from the outside, like the Sponza Palace notable for its columned courtyard with elaborate stone carvings, Church of Saint Blaise, Onofriou's Fountain, etc.
Then, you will go to the Dubrovnik cable car. A short ride will take you up to the top of Srd hill from where you can admire Dubrovnik Old town, Elaphite Islands and Lokrum.

This small and charming town is located around a natural port and it is undoubtedly one of the most famous seaside resorts of Dalmatian coast.
A lot of splendid monuments as the Cathedral, the ancient Arsenal and different palaces are bearing witness to a rich history of Gothic and Renaissance arts.
From the pier, follow your guide through narrow tiny streets to the 15th century Franciscan Monastery. The cloister with its rounded arches and a well in the middle dominates the Renaissance monastery. The former spacious refectory and a small, adjacent room have been turned into the monastery museum. Along with a collection of old books and coins, the famous "Last Supper", a work belonging to the Venetian School of Palma the Younger from the end of the 16th century, has the strongest claims on the attention of the numerous visitors.
After crossing the main square, you will pass by the Cathedral of Saint Stephan (outside visit). It was built in stages during the 16th and 17th centuries, while the interior was not wholly completed until the 18th century. From outside, it has the characteristics of the Renaissance style and inside the baroque style.
Then, you will visit the Benedictine Monastery, which holds a rich collection of lace made of agave leaves.

Considered one of the most beautiful and popular Croatian islands, Hvar still retains a discreet charm, especially in its hinterland. From Piran, head to the famous Postojna Cave and enjoy an extraordinary subterranean exploration.
From the bus station, the bus will take the scenic road to the cave. You will make your way into the depths of the cave to discover its mysterious chambers and its fascinating formations, including stalactites and stalagmites.
The Postojna Cave is the only karst cave equipped with an underground railway, built over 140 years ago. Over the course of a 1.5-hour guided visit, you will discover these major karst features: Neboticnik (skyscraper), the tallest limestone formation, reaching 16 metres (52 feet) in height, Briljant (brilliant), the crystal-white symbol of the Postojna Cave, and the oldest underground post office in the world.
Gaze in wonder at the stunning stalactites and stalagmites that adorn the cave's chambers, creating a magical and otherworldly atmosphere.

During a walk around the lively districts of Dorsoduro and Santa Croce, discover two of the city’s oldest and most active craft trades: the arts of mask making and brocade weaving.
Worn in Venice since Antiquity, Venetian masks have long served to protect their wearer’s identity during controversial activities such as gambling in one of the many casinos for which the city was known. In a traditional mask workshop, you will learn about the history of Venetian masks and their use in Antiquity, as well as their methods of production and decoration.
You will continue your walk in the district of Santa Croce, home to the impressive Frari church, and go to the Luigi Bevilacqua weaving workshop. Since 1875, using silk looms, highly skilled hands have been transforming precious threads into prestigious velvets, damasks and brocades intended to furnish royal palaces, residences and theatres all over the world.
You will hear about the history of the company and the textile tradition in Venice and you will see different types of fabrics, including illustrious works created for the fashion and interior decoration industries. The Bevilacqua archives contain over 3,500 models of patterns, all of which are original.
At the end of the visit, you will return to the pier by private water taxi.

This tour by private boat on the lagoon of Venice will permit you to discover two of the famous islands.
After a 45-minute boat ride you will arrive in Burano, 6 miles (9.5 km) to the north of Venice, where most of the inhabitants are fishermen or skilled lace makers. Peculiarities of this island are the brightly and picturesque painted houses and the lace production. Nowadays, it can still happen to see the lace-makers sit working in front of the doors of their houses, while others have their stalls everywhere, selling filet embroidery, crochet and bobbin work, blankets and garments.
The colours of the houses follow a specific system originating from the golden age of its development; if someone wishes to paint their home, one must send a request to the government, who will respond by making notice of the certain colours permitted for that lot.
Before leaving Burano, enjoy a refreshment of regional sparkling wine "Prosecco" and a taste of mixed fried fish at "Da Romano", a typical trattoria on Burano Island.
Re-embark your boat for the ride to Torcello, the "cradle" of Venetian civilisation. A powerful maritime and trading power for a period of centuries, this island played a vital part in the growth of Venice, the capital of Veneto. Before Venice came into existence, Torcello was the main town of the archipelago, only decreasing in importance with the development and increasing power of Venice. Excavations carried out in 1961/2 show that Torcello was settled by the Romans in the 1st and second century AD. Nowadays, the island is almost inhabited. The highlights are two quite marvellous churches, a reminder of another world and another time: the monumental basilica of Santa Maria (interior visit) and Santa Fosca (exterior visit). Entry into the basilica brings even greater delight. Its inside is adorned with glittering and colourful 12th and 13th century Byzantine mosaics depicting the Last Judgement.

Set off from your hotel with a local guide and start your day by visiting Mdina. Take a stroll through the Silent City’s narrow streets and visit the Mdina cathedral and fortifications. Mdina, Malta’s Old Capital, was used as a filming location for the movie Black Eagle, starring Jean-Claude Van Damme, and for the Game of Thrones series. With its extraordinary mix of medieval and Baroque architecture, Mdina is one of Europe’s finest examples of an ancient walled city.
You will then proceed to a local boutique winery, where wine is produced on an estate comprising four hectares of terraced vineyards. It was built with weathered limestone blocks that perfectly blend old-world charm with practical, modern architectural touches. About 15,000 vines are planted on this estate, along with around 200 olive trees plus fig trees, carob trees, and other indigenous Maltese flora. After the visit, you will have the opportunity to taste three fine wines.
This will be followed by a fine meal at a local gourmet restaurant.

Depart by coach from the port through the countryside, passing through villages and almond groves as you make your way to Noto, the second largest town in Syracuse province and the best example of Sicilian Baroque architecture on the island.
You will cross on foot the Public Gardens, where it is possible to admire the busts of the artists who contributed to Noto’s urban culture and style.
Besides the 18th century Cathedral, currently under restoration after damage suffered during 1990 earthquake, other impressive buildings are the Churches of St Domenico and of St Charles (del Colleggio), the “Ducezio” Palace and “Villadorata” Palace.
Noto has been declared a Heritage site by UNESCO, who also provides financial support for the reconstruction of monuments destroyed during 1990 earthquake.
A refreshment will be offered at a local bar and then you will enjoy some free time to browse around before commencing the return drive to Syracuse.

Visit the Roman Amphitheatre of Augustus, used for fights between gladiators and wild beasts, the Altar of Hieron, constructed in the 2nd century BC to celebrate the “Eleutherian Feast”, the Latomie of Paradise, huge caverns once used as prisons, the Ear of Dionysius, an enormous grotto with extraordinary echo and the Greek Theatre, one of the largest in the Hellenic World, constructed in the 5th century BC and successively enlarged.
Upon completion of the visit, re-board your coach for the short drive to Ortygia, which you will visit on foot. On Ortygia Island discover the Piazza Pancali (the ruins of the Temple of Apollo of the 6th century BC), Corso Matteotti, Archimede’s Place, Piazza Duomo. Visit the Cathedral in Baroque style, erected over the remains of the Doric Temple of Minerva: in the interiors, see the undamaged twelve Doric columns. From the pier, you will meet with your guide and start your walking tour through the Old Town of Syracusa, whose narrow streets are lined by old, Baroque-style houses with charming balconies. You will enjoy a photo stop at the Cathedral Square where the Baroque-style Cathedral can be seen (outside visit only), erected over the remains of the Doric Temple of Minerva.
You will continue your walking tour through the narrow streets in the heart of the historic center towards the artisan workshop of Daniel Mauceri, a famous pupeteer. Daniel, together with his family, carries-on the ancient tradition of the Opera dei Pupi.
In 2021 Daniel Mauceri was selected by the Michelangelo Foundation to be included in the Homo Faber Guide, which contains the best international artisan excellence. His private collection represents the fruit of years of hard work by the Vaccaro Mauceri family. Upon your arrival, Daniel will explains all the processing stages for the creation of a Sicilian puppet and will show you how to move it during a show.

Set off to discover the hills of Buonivini, in Noto, and dive into the history of this wine estate with a visit of the vineyard, followed by a tasting.
On the hills of Buonivini, the limestone soil and breezes coming from the meeting of two seas create the best conditions for the vines to successfully grow and produce great wines. Here, Nero d'Avola and Moscato grow side by side with almonds, carobs and olives, all symbolic plants of the Mediterranean region.
Planeta Buonivini created its estate in 1998, renovating the case sparse, these small rural houses equipped with furniture made from recycled materials, where it is possible to stay in an authentic atmosphere.

From the pier, board your coach for the 45-minute drive to the port of Castro Marina, a nice village located on the very heel of Italy's boot, from where you will embark on a local boat for your 2-hour scenic cruise along the Apulian coastline.
You will see the most important and well-known caves located along this part of the Italian coast between Castro Marina and Santa Cesarea named Azzurra, Palombara, Zinzulusa, Romanelli, Streghe and Solfatara.
You will have the opportunity to visit two of the caves by boat, the Azzurra Cave, with its extraordinary plays of lights and the Zinzulusa Cave, with its impressive entrance, full of history and legends. Sea conditions permitting, two stops are foreseen for a relaxing swim.
Following a refreshment and local snacks onboard the boat, it will be time to return to reboard your coach for the transfer back to the pier and your ship.

The city of Lecce has earned itself various epithets thanks to its beauty and its historical and architectural treasures: in fact, it is usually referred to as “the Florence of Southern Italy” or “open-air museum” for the abundance of churches and noble palaces, made more elegant and refined by the unique and sumptuous decorations realized with the “leccese stone”, a particular stone whose colour gets the same nuance as honey under the rays of the sun.
Set in the very heart of the Salento region, called “the Heel of Italy’s boot”, Lecce dates back to Roman times: in fact, you can still admire in Piazza St. Oronzo the Roman Amphitheatre (from outside) which dates back to the second century A.D. and could hold up to 20,000 spectators. In it gladiators used to face and fight against wild animals.
From Otranto, board your coach for the one-hour drive to Lecce where your walking tour of the old town will start. Walk the centre of town with your guide to discover a remarkable architectural style known as the “Barocco Leccese”. From the 16th to the 18th century, Lecce knew a period of great splendour during which it was embellished with Rococo’ and Baroque Monuments. The local finely grained limestone was particularly easy to work, making easy the creation of a very decorative style, with delicate details, which you will recognize immediately.
During the tour you will visit Santa Croce Basilica (only outside visit), which is sumptuously decorated, without being overbearing: close to it you can admire the impressive façade of the Governor’s Palace (the former monastery of the Celestine monks). The pizzica belongs to the large family of traditional dances known as tarantella, and was a popular dance in Puglia and Basilicata until the 1970s.
As well as being performed at festive occasions by various family groups or local communities, the pizzica also accompanied the ritual of tarentism (therapeutic treatments to cure the venom of the tarantula) in the Salento area. It was performed by orchestras made up of various instruments, with the tambourine and violin standing out for their rhythmic and melodic characteristics.
Today, you'll be treated to a performance by three musicians and one dancer, dressed in traditional costumes. Let yourself be carried away by this tradition and admire their art.

Off in the distance, the gates of the old town open onto a maze of narrow lanes edged withbright- and warm-coloured dwellings, where the shade of the buildings draws a mystical labyrinth. Each street corner tells its own story of this medieval city, with its multiple heritages and cultural influences. Take the time to listen to the stories told by your local guide, as you admire the surprising St. Agatha’s Cathedral, its columns and its stunning baroque frescoes.
The sun-drenched hills of Gallipoli, bathed by the blue waters of the Mediterranean, made it a regional stronghold in olive-oil production as of the 15th century. The exports of this “liquid gold” were so significant that its production was stored in the four corners of the city in underground cisterns dug out of the local limestone, called carparo. You will have the opportunity to discover the production techniques that were used in the past, as you visit one of the 35 recently renovated underground oil mills.

From the pier, embark your coach for the 25-minute drive to Perast, town with almost the same number of churches as the number of inhabitants.
Enjoy the scenery and architecture of the old historical town of Perast which, between the 13th and 18th centuries, belonged to Venice. The most beautiful buildings were constructed under the period of the Republic of Venice in the 17th and 18th centuries when Perast was at its peak. The Parish Church in Perast was built in 1740 by the Venetian architect, Giuseppe Beati but only the church tower and the church vault remain. You will visit the St. Nicholas Church, patron saint of the sailors.
There are two small islands in the close vicinity of Perast: St. George Island and Our Lady of the Rock Island.
You will reach the man-made islet of Our Lady of the Rocks after a 15-minute boat ride. The stone plateau in the middle of the sea with a church on it is the result of the enduring efforts of generations of sailors. The island was built artificially by scuttling old ships and depositing stones around a small crag. The construction of a sanctuary began in the first century of the Venetian rule. The sanctuary was dedicated to the Assumption of the Virgin because this cult was greatly venerated by the Venetians. On the altar is the famous icon of Our Lady of the Rock, a 15th century work by Lovro Marinov Dobricevic. It is the most valuable work of art in the church because its history is so closely related to that of the island, the only artificially built island in the Adriatic. The church itself is decorated with more than 2,500 votive tablets made of silver, mostly donated by seamen.

From the pier, board your coach for a 1-hour scenic drive along the Adriatic Road toward the town of Ston.
Ston was built according to the plans approved by the Dubrovnik government in 1335 and amended in 1370 and is considered one of the best planned and best structured cities in Europe. The walls of Ston were a massive architecture and construction feat. Originally 7,000 metre long (22,965 ft.), they consist of several parts; the Ston city walls, the Mali Ston city walls and the Big wall with its three forts. Its forts and towers are strengthened by 10 round and 31 square flanking towers, as well as 6 semicircular bastions. It took almost four centuries to finish these complex defence walls, as the builders had to adapt to the rough terrain and advancements in warfare technology. The walls were last used for defence in the 19th century, and today they are a priceless monument of immense architectural and cultural value.
Once arriving at Ston’s walls, you will start your hiking passing distance of almost 900 meters over demanding terrain with more than 250 steps before joining your coach for a ride to Mali Ston, the 'oysters capital' of Croatia.
Upon arrival in Mali Ston, you will board a local boat which will take you to oyster and mussel beds. Your host will welcome you on board and introduce you with oyster & mussel farming in this area. You will have the opportunity to learn about the oyster & mussel production as well as to taste freshly prepared oysters & mussels including mussel buzara (mussels cooked with wine, garlic and olive oil).

Along the way you will visit, among other places, the Franciscan Monastery whose cloister ranks among the most inspiring sites of the city. The Monastery houses also the oldest still working pharmacy in Europe and the third oldest pharmacy in the world founded in 1317. It is still active and still offers creams manufactured according to ancestral recipes.
You will continue with the Dominican Monastery, soberer than the previous one, and its museum with a fine collection of Renaissance paintings, including the triptych of N. Bozidarevic representing Dubrovnik before the earthquake or the table of Titian representing Sainte Madeleine and Saint Blaise.
Other fine buildings will be viewed from the outside, like the Sponza Palace notable for its columned courtyard with elaborate stone carvings, Church of Saint Blaise, Onofriou's Fountain, etc.

This small and charming town is located around a natural port and it is undoubtedly one of the most famous seaside resorts of Dalmatian coast.
A lot of splendid monuments as the Cathedral, the ancient Arsenal and different palaces are bearing witness to a rich history of Gothic and Renaissance arts.
From the pier, follow your guide through narrow tiny streets to the 15th century Franciscan Monastery. The cloister with its rounded arches and a well in the middle dominates the Renaissance monastery. The former spacious refectory and a small, adjacent room have been turned into the monastery museum. Along with a collection of old books and coins, the famous "Last Supper", a work belonging to the Venetian School of Palma the Younger from the end of the 16th century, has the strongest claims on the attention of the numerous visitors.
After crossing the main square, you will pass by the Cathedral of Saint Stephan (outside visit). It was built in stages during the 16th and 17th centuries, while the interior was not wholly completed until the 18th century. From outside, it has the characteristics of the Renaissance style and inside the baroque style.

From Piran, head to the famous Postojna Cave and enjoy an extraordinary subterranean exploration.
From the bus station, the bus will take the scenic road to the cave. You will make your way into the depths of the cave to discover its mysterious chambers and its fascinating formations, including stalactites and stalagmites.
The Postojna Cave is the only karst cave equipped with an underground railway, built over 140 years ago. Over the course of a 1.5-hour guided visit, you will discover these major karst features: Neboticnik (skyscraper), the tallest limestone formation, reaching 16 metres (52 feet) in height, Briljant (brilliant), the crystal-white symbol of the Postojna Cave, and the oldest underground post office in the world.
Gaze in wonder at the stunning stalactites and stalagmites that adorn the cave's chambers, creating a magical and otherworldly atmosphere.
After this experience, we'll board your bus and drive back to Piran.
As our journey comes to a close, we'll take a leisurely walk back to the tender point.

During a walk around the lively districts of Dorsoduro and Santa Croce, discover two of the city’s oldest and most active craft trades: the arts of mask making and brocade weaving.
Worn in Venice since Antiquity, Venetian masks have long served to protect their wearer’s identity during controversial activities such as gambling in one of the many casinos for which the city was known. In a traditional mask workshop, you will learn about the history of Venetian masks and their use in Antiquity, as well as their methods of production and decoration.
You will continue your walk in the district of Santa Croce, home to the impressive Frari church, and go to the Luigi Bevilacqua weaving workshop. Since 1875, using silk looms, highly skilled hands have been transforming precious threads into prestigious velvets, damasks and brocades intended to furnish royal palaces, residences and theatres all over the world.
You will hear about the history of the company and the textile tradition in Venice and you will see different types of fabrics, including illustrious works created for the fashion and interior decoration industries. The Bevilacqua archives contain over 3,500 models of patterns, all of which are original.
At the end of the visit, you will return to the pier by private water taxi.

This tour by private boat on the lagoon of Venice will permit you to discover two of the famous islands.
After a 45-minute boat ride you will arrive in Burano, 6 miles (9.5 km) to the north of Venice, where most of the inhabitants are fishermen or skilled lace makers. Peculiarities of this island are the brightly and picturesque painted houses and the lace production. Nowadays, it can still happen to see the lace-makers sit working in front of the doors of their houses, while others have their stalls everywhere, selling filet embroidery, crochet and bobbin work, blankets and garments.
The colours of the houses follow a specific system originating from the golden age of its development; if someone wishes to paint their home, one must send a request to the government, who will respond by making notice of the certain colours permitted for that lot.
Before leaving Burano, enjoy a refreshment of regional sparkling wine "Prosecco" and a taste of mixed fried fish at "Da Romano", a typical trattoria on Burano Island.
Re-embark your boat for the ride to Torcello, the "cradle" of Venetian civilisation. A powerful maritime and trading power for a period of centuries, this island played a vital part in the growth of Venice, the capital of Veneto. Before Venice came into existence, Torcello was the main town of the archipelago, only decreasing in importance with the development and increasing power of Venice. Excavations carried out in 1961/2 show that Torcello was settled by the Romans in the 1st and second century AD. Nowadays, the island is almost inhabited. The highlights are two quite marvellous churches, a reminder of another world and another time: the monumental basilica of Santa Maria (interior visit) and Santa Fosca (exterior visit). Entry into the basilica brings even greater delight. Its inside is adorned with glittering and colourful 12th and 13th century Byzantine mosaics depicting the Last Judgement.
The guide will give commentary on the boat while visits ashore are independent.

The Venetian Lagoon is a unique environment in which various natural settings rub shoulders with an architectural heritage scattered over dozens of islands. With a surface area of 550 square kilometres (342 square miles), it is one of the largest lagoons in Europe.
You will sail along the Giudecca Canal and admire Andrea Palladio’s masterpiece, Il Redentore Church, and, opposite it, I Gesuati Church. You will continue towards San Marco basin, opposite the eponymous square and the Punta della Dogana, an art museum located in one of Venice's old customs buildings. You will then enter the Grand Canal and pass by the island of San Servolo, home to a former monastery, then by the Venetian Arsenal. You will head towards the island of San Lazzaro degli Armeni, also occupied by a monastery, and the small island of Poveglia, renowned as a haunted island! On the way back to San Basilio port, you will disembark on the island of San Giorgio Maggiore to visit the church.
